Young ‘Rastafarian’ Expresses Interest To Contest For BAC Chairmanship
By Buba Gagigo
Mr. Modou Manka, a middle age young Gambian who describes himself as a Rastafarian, has expressed interest to run for the chairmanship of the Brikama Area council in the upcoming Local Government Elections.
Mr. Manka said he is motivated to run for office because he is a victim of several ‘missed’ opportunities that should have happened in his life and that of the people residing in the West Coast Region.
“Since Jammeh’s time, a lot of politicians came to them (residents of the West Coast Region) with empty promises. Governors and Chairmen for the region always fail them, and that is among my motivations. All the people complaining about the lack of good markets, good schools, good recreational centers, etc are the ones I will be representing. I always say that I feel their pains, and I am here to wipe their tears,” he told Kerr Fatou.
Mr. Manka who is currently in the Gambia is a native of Brikama. He resides with his family in the Netherlands. He attended Jamisa Primary school from 1991 to 97. Then proceeded to Brikama Upper Basic School from 1998 to 2001.
