The state, represented by the Office of the Attorney General, has formally charged Maimuna Jallow for her purported involvement in the death of her 5-month-old infant.
Maimuna Jallow faces a Manslaughter charge under Section 189 of the Criminal Code Revised Laws of The Gambia, 2009.
Prosecutors assert that on October 4, 2023, around 19:00 hours in Manjai, within the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, Maimuna Jallow is accused of causing the demise of her five-month-old breastfeeding baby, Sirajo Jallow. Allegedly, she “negligently” entrusted the infant to Fifteen-year-old Kadijatou Camara, a minor, despite being aware that the minor was not adequately equipped to care for the baby. This alleged negligence resulted in severe health complications and ultimately led to the baby’s death, constituting an offense.
Maimuna Jallow appeared before Hon. Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the High Court of The Gambia.
Hon. Justice Jaiteh has adjourned the case to November 27, 2023, for the plea-taking proceedings.
