Migration activist Ebrima Drammeh has raised concerns about three boats that recently departed from Sanyang, Lamin, and Saro. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
“(Today (Last Saturday) is the 11th day of the first boat that departed from Sanyang Beach on the 2nd of this month without any information or sign about them yet, and it’s not looking any good. The food, water and the fuel they have should just serve them for seven days, and they are coming to their two weeks,” Ebrima Said.
He added that the second boat, which departed from Lamin on the 3rd of this month, has been at sea for 10 days.
“I don’t think things are looking good for them, either. Do they have enough food, water, and fuel, and are their engines working? I don’t know, but these are the things I always think about these days. And today is the eighth day of the third boat that departed from Saro in Banjul. Are they okay? Do they have enough food, water and fuel? There are hundreds of Gambian lives at sea at the moment, and their friends and family are worried about their loved ones in this hot temperature in the sea that can go up to 39° to 44°. He said.
Drammeh also raised concerns about the response from the Gambian government. “Is the Gambia government aware of this, and if they are aware of it, what are they doing about it? Did they contact the Spanish maritime? I don’t think so. How about the Navy in Mauritania and Morocco, or are they going to be quiet until disaster happens? Well, I am not happy and am afraid.”
