VP Joof Receives WFP Regional Director
His Excellency, Vice President (VP) Badara A. Joof Wednesday received Mr. Chris Nikoi, the World Food Programme (WFP) Regional Director for West and Central Africa.
Mr. Nikoi was accompanied to the State House in Banjul by Mr. Yasuhiro Tsumura, WFP Representative and Country Director for The Gambia.
The visit by the WFP Regional Director is connected to the World Food Programmes’ continuous support to the Government’s disaster relief efforts.
Vice President Joof thanked the WFP for the enormous support to The Gambia Government’s humanitarian relief efforts, especially during the recent floods that devastated most parts of the country.
Speaking to the press, the visiting Regional Director said he had discussions with VP Joof on WFP’s additional support in addressing the perennial problems of flooding.
He also discussed social protection and the challenges in the global supply chain of fertilizer, as shortages could contribute to low crop yields.
Mr. Chris Nikoi thanked the Vice President for the warm reception and the fruitful discussions.
