Urgent Appeal For Government Intervention: Threat Of Evictions For Lamin CDC Homeowners
In 2013, the Asset Management Recovery Cooperation (AMRC) sold 282 plots of land in Lamin CDC, located adjacent to Yundum Airport. Buyers of these plots received official documents, including Title Deeds, and many have since constructed homes and established their families there, some for over seven years.
On July 17, 2024, an eviction notice from the Honorable Sheriff of The Gambia was issued, demanding that all homeowners in Lamin CDC vacate their properties by August 19, 2024. A second notice, also from the Honorable Sheriff, was distributed on July 23, 2024, extending the deadline to August 23, 2024. We have informed AMRC of these notices, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
As purchasers of land from AMRC, a government institution founded by an act of parliament and thus recognized as a legitimate government entity, we, the residents of Lamin CDC, are calling on the government to intervene immediately. We urge the authorities to address the eviction issue and resolve any disputes involving Bingna Able Thomas, the personal representative of the late David Able Thomas.
We appeal to the Government of The Gambia, under the leadership of H.E. President Barrow, to prevent potential social unrest within our community. We trust that the government will take prompt and appropriate action to protect our homes and ensure justice.
