UDP Youth Wing Granted Permit To Hold Peaceful Procession On March 10th

The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has granted the Youth Wing of the United Democratic Party (UDP) a permit to hold a peaceful procession against corruption on March 10th, 2023.

In a letter, addressed to the United Democratic Party National Youth President, the Inspector General of Police acknowledged receipt of their letter seeking a permit for a peaceful procession on March 10th and granted permission for the procession to take place as requested.

“1. I acknowledged receipt of your letter dated 1st March 2023 addressed to the Office of the Inspector General of Police in relation to the above subject matter.

2. Be informed that permission has been granted to you to go ahead with your peaceful procession slated for 10th March 2023 commencing from 11:00hrs to 14:00hrs from Bond Road junction (Opposite Jah Oil) to the first gate of the National Assembly (opposite Christian Cemetery),” the police say.

The police, However, say the application was approved based on the following conditions:

A). That the procession is confined to the time scheduled given in this approved permit

B). That the procession starts from Bond Road junction to the first gate of the National Assembly.

C). That only a Five-Man delegation is permitted to deliver the petition from the National Assembly first gate to the AG Chambers.

D). That the press briefing can be held at the front gate of the National Assembly building. 

E). That the procession is confined within the limits of the law.

F). That no derogatory words or remarks should be addressed to any person that will eventually result in a breach of the peace.”

While the police say they will provide security for the peaceful procession, they said failure to comply with the above conditions will result in the revocation of the permit and or criminal prosecution.
