Demir Carda, a representative of the Turkish-based renewable energy company, has told Kerr Fatou that his company is planning to build an energy plant in Gambia.
A 15-member delegation of Turkish investors have arrived in the country to look for investment opportunities in various areas in Gambia. The delegation led by Saban Dinc met with Gambian businessmen at the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.
Dinc is the chairman of the Turkey-Gambia Business Council, a joint enterprise initiated by the two countries in 2013 to boost their trading partnership.
“Renewable energy is our most important technology that we are offering to Gambia… We have created a brand-new technology that will bring clean energy to the Gambia…,” said Dinc.
“We are talking to Gambian authorities tomorrow and we are hoping they will accept our offering.”
Demir Carda, a representative of the Turkish-based renewable energy company call Solar Wall, said the project will be completely funded by them. “Fifteen years later, it will be free of charge for the Gambian people,” said Carda. Carda said the capacity of their energy plant will be determined by the need of the country.
“The good thing about this group is that they are offering their own finance for an energy solution. We hope NAWEC and the Ministry of Energy will take this offers seriously,” said Alieu Secka, the chief executive officer of the GCCI.
The areas of investment for the delegates include textile businesses, renewable energy, laboratory and medical equipment, construction companies, among others.
“What the Turkish businesses are offering is finance… This is a great opportunity for Gambia to capitalize on,” said Ismail Sefa Yuceer, Turkish ambassador to the Gambia.
The Turkish-Gambian Business Council was established by Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey on 11 March 2013 in Istanbul.
The two parties agreed to establish a bilateral Business Council to help promote trade between The Gambia and Turkey, contribute to industrial and technological collaboration between their enterprises and economic institutions.
Mehmet Sekmen, a mayor for the Turkey’s Erzurum province was also part of the business delegations. The business delegates meet Gambian authorities tomorrow.
