Trust Bank, as part of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, on Tuesday, donated materials valued at 200,000 Dalasis to the Kanifing General Hospital, one of the country’s largest healthcare facilities serving a population of over 600,000 people. The donated items included essential supplies such as fans, blood pressure monitors, and detergents.
These contributions are expected to significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare, with a particular focus on maternal and child health.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Omar Mboob, Deputy Managing Director of Trust Bank, emphasized the bank’s dedication to reducing maternal mortality rates in The Gambia through targeted support for healthcare facilities.
“By working together, we can ensure that fewer women and babies lose their lives due to preventable complications. This year, as part of our ongoing partnership with Kanifing Hospital, we are honored to contribute once again to your efforts, as we have done in previous years. Trust Bank has engaged directly with the hospital management to understand your specific needs and challenges. Through this dialogue, we can ensure that our donation directly addresses the most pressing requirements of the maternity unit. This year’s donation totals, D200,000, which went towards the purchase of items on your requested list,” he said.
Basiru Drammeh, The Chief Executive Officer of Kanifing General Hospital, hailed the donation as a pivotal milestone in the hospital’s journey to improve healthcare delivery.
“This is truly commendable, and we really appreciate your philanthropic gesture. Today’s presentation marks another important milestone in the history of the valuable collaboration between Kanifing General Hospital and Trust Bank. This partnership is undoubtedly making a huge impact on service delivery we provide, and more importantly, of the individuals and families who rely on us for care. It is not a mistake for Trust Bank to choose this facility for this year’s donation as it is the busiest and biggest health facility in this municipality,” the CEO said.
Musa Cham, representing the Regional Health Director, highlighted the critical role of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable development goals, underscoring the importance of collaborations like this in achieving universal health coverage.
“We cannot attain the sustainable development goals without partnership, and that is the more reason why Trust Bank is not only Kanifing General Hospital, we are cognizant as a health ministry or as a health sector, the support that Trust Bank provides to the entire Ministry of Health,” he said.
Karamo Ceesay, representative of the Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council also expressed gratitude to Trust Bank for its unwavering commitment to the municipality’s development while the Head of the Maternity Ward at the Kanifing General Hospital, Mariama Fofana, noted that the donated materials would greatly aid in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, contributing to the hospital’s overall efficiency and patient care.
This marks the fourth consecutive year of Trust Bank’s donations to Kanifing General Hospital, reaffirming its dedication to fostering quality healthcare in The Gambia. The bank’s efforts remain focused on ensuring that Gambians, particularly women and children, have access to the services they need for a healthier future.
