The National Student Association of Basic and Secondary Schools in The Gambia has described the proposed teacher’s Sit-down Strike as a ‘serious’ issue to the detriment of the students.

“The National Students Association of Basic and Secondary Schools’ Executive Committee hereby declares its notice of the current situation of teachers’ sit-down strike. After receiving tons of concerns from the general student body, the executive members have thoroughly consulted one another on possible solutions. We realize that this is a serious issue to the detriment of the students, most especially the 12 grades,” they said via a press statement.

The Association urged its members to keep calm as they prepare to make their next move;

“In due diligence and time, we will update you about our next move to ensure that you are well informed. We urge the general student body of The Gambia basic and secondary schools to keep calm and allow us to take the necessary steps for now. We advise all students not to take any unnecessary action without the concern of the Executive Committee.

“We are working hand-in-glove with the general members and the right protocols to ensure a definite solution is found within a short time. We feel your cries and understand that you would lose a lot of valuable time. However, be assured that effective measures will be taken. Continue reading your books and engage yourselves in fruitful activities for your education,” the statement ends.
