Takaful Insurance Company Presents D4.9M To NAWEC

Takaful Gambia Limited presented a cheque of D4949578.18 (4.9 million) to the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) on Thursday at NAWEC’s head office in Westfield. 

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) received the D4.9 million cheque from the Insurance Company as a share of the Insurance Company’s profits from 2019 and 2020, as part of an agreement between the two companies.

Speaking at the Presentation Ceremony, Fatou Jallow, the CEO of Takaful Insurance Company, said that Takaful and NAWEC are long-term partners. She explained that the two companies have been working together for many years. She said that Takaful is committed to providing excellent customer service and that it is proud to be a partner of NAWEC.

“NAWEC and Takaful have come a very long way, it’s being since 2015 when we started the business for NAWEC. We have written different classes under the partnership between NAWEC and Takaful. So, it has been a very good partnership, mutual benefited partnership. As Takaful company, when you send us your risk to cover, there could be two benefits. Either you benefit by way of claim, or you benefit by way of profit sharing 

“We are a Takaful company; we come together and contribute toward a poll of funds as donations. At the end of it if there is no claim then the participants are entitled to a share of a profit that we made,” she said 

Edrisa B. Jarju, the Deputy Managing Director of NAWEC, recently spoke about the importance of insurance. He said that NAWEC has been working with Takaful Insurance for many years to provide insurance coverage.

“Receiving a cheque of 4.9 m from Takaful for the insurance business relationship between us. It is a partnership based on Islamic insurance of profit sharing based on sharia or Islamic laws. NAWEC as a client of Takaful is entitled to earn returns to earn returns on the contributions to gain in inconsideration for their participation in Takaful products,” he Said. 

Seedy Omar Bensouda, one of the directors of Takaful Insurance, recently spoke about the company’s unique approach to the insurance industry. He said that Takaful is an Islamic insurance company, which means that it operates in accordance with the principles of Shariah law.
