Personnel of the Gambia Navy have arrested Police Intervention Unit Officers, 2 foreigners and a civilian with guns at Denton Bridge, a reliable source told this reporter.
The suspects have been arrested by the Gambia Navy while smuggling the guns from the river to the Denton Bridge in Banjul, a source told this reporter.
The source added that the suspects had already smuggled 2 trips of guns into town unnoticed, before the Navy caught them on their third trip.
The whereabouts of the first two trips of the guns aren’t yet known to the security, our source concluded.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of PIU officers and 2 foreign nationals on a boat containing arms and ammunitions.
However, the GAF spokesperson couldn’t give much details of the arrests as investigations into matter are ongoing.
