Statement By Momodou Sabally
Official Statement:
And then we must thank Allah for this great victory of #truth over falsehood and #righteousness over oppression.
I am free and home today because Gambians across the political, religious and ethnic divide, came together in solidarity with the truth; to support justice, democracy and human rights.
Thank God we won. This victory and cannot be about Momodou Sabally alone. This whole thing was about the country and the principle of democracy and human rights. And it is Gambia that won at the end of the day.
Much love and appreciation to everyone who participated in this struggle. I am indebted to Gambians at home and abroad. And I am grateful to the CSO alliance and the international community.
I cannot mention everybody here; and I know you all did not do this for any recognition.
But I am deeply grateful to everybody and I crave your indulgence to single out Madi Jobarteh, Pa Samba Jow (Coach), Musa Jeng, Sanna Sarr, and my sister from Lamin Fatou Touray (Kerr Fatou).
To my party leader and Secretary General and the entire UDP family, I cannot thank you enough. The gratitude is immeasurable.
To Buba Sanna Njie and the group of “Never Again Protesters” Gambia is proud of you!
UDP National Assembly Members and all elected representatives deserve special commendation. Our local government heads were very supportive. Mayor Talib Bensouda was at the forefront and my very own sister Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe has proven her worth to me as a sister.
To my amazing wife, the indefatigable Jainaba Teeda Sarr, all I can say is that I am not surprised but #impressed
Lawyer Abdoulie Fatty: your brilliance and courage constitute an impregnable fortress in my defence. God bless you my brother.
I salute the Supreme Islamic Council their mediation role. And the media fraternity for the support to bring the light to this critical matter.
Let me take this opportunity to extend Seasons Greetings to my brothers and sister of the Christian faith. I am blessed to consider you all my family.
Wishing everyone a blessed New Year and many more happy feasts ahead.
God bless The Gambia.
