Stadium Management Says Facility Is Closed To Public For All Events

The management of the Independence Stadium and Hostel in Bakau has announced that the stadium will be closed to all events until the remodeling and rehabilitation work is completed. The work includes a complete overhaul of the stadium’s facilities, including the playing field, changing rooms, and spectator seating.
The statement was issued a day after a flyer was circulated on social media, claiming that the Senegalese wrestling face-to-face would be held at the Independent Stadium, which is currently undergoing renovations.
“The Independence Stadium is profoundly disappointed to found this program been advertised on the social media claiming that it’s going to be hosted at the stadium without making any request or approval by the stadium. The Independence Stadium is closed for all activities and cannot host any activity until after the completion of the Remodeling and Rehabilitation of the stadium. We urged the organisers of this activity to retract and withdraw their advertisement with the use of the Independence Stadium,” said a statement posted on their Facebook page.
The Gambia’s Independence Stadium has been banned from hosting CAF A Type competition since February 16, 2022, when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) found that it did not meet the required standards. The stadium has been under renovation since then.
