SIC Urged Gambians To Be Peace Advocators After Sabally’s Release

The Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) has urged Gambians to be peace Advocates. This follows their involvement in the negotiations that ultimately helped in the unconditional release of Momodou Sabally from police custody.

“Pertinently, we equally urge the citizenry to be peace advocators in their critiquing and avoid utterances that have the potential to undermine national security,” the council wrote in their press release after the Released of Momodou Sabally.

The Supreme Islamic Council through the same press release announced the following after their dialogue with the Gambian authorities;

“That Mr. Momodou Sabally, has been unconditionally released from Police custody.

“That freedom of speech is considered a fundamental Human right and should be respected at all times, however, that right should be exercised cautiously and within the limits of the law.

“Generally, the stakeholders encouraged Gambians to resort to the use of dialogue and negotiations in addressing peace. and security predicaments for the stability of the country.

“The Supreme Islamic Council is hereby urging the Gambia Government to continue its firm commitment to the promotion and protection of rights and freedoms for the development of the Country”.

The opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) Campaign Manager Momodou Sabally was on Friday released unconditionally after spending nearly 10 days with the police without being charged.
