The popular rapper Killa Ace remains in custody pending their bail hearing on Thursday
Prosecutors at the Attorney General’s chambers have dropped charges against 30 of the 37 youths remanded at Mile 2 over July 24 protest in Serrekunda.
A spontaneous protest erupted in Serrekunda over the death of Ousman Darboe, a Sierra Leonean national whose death was blamed on the police.
Darboe was arrested and detained by the police anti crime unit and he died 3 days after he was released. His colleagues said his death was caused by the police.
Several youths took to the street in Serrekunda demanding justice for his death. The youth later burnt the house of head of the anti crime unit, Gorgi Mboob, and ransacked the Bakoteh Police Station.
Later the 37 youths were charged with arson and willful damages, among others, in connection to the protest.
The youth were remanded at Mile 2 by the Kanifing Magistrate Court last week. But today the Attorney General Chambers filed a Nolle Prosequi against all the defendants except 7.
Those who remain in custody are Omar Jobe, Muhammed Fadia, Lansana Tamba, Ali Cham (Killa Ace), Ebrima Camara, Yerro Saidy and Omar Darboe.
Meanwhile, the High Court hears the bail application of the remaining 7 on Thursday at 12 noon.
The lawyers representing the youths are Salieu Taal, Gombeh Gaye, Antouman Gaye, Patrick Gomez and Lamin Camara.
