Incumbent Banjul Mayor, Rohey Malick Lowe, of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has condemned the behaviour of ruling National People’s Party (NPP) supporters who danced on her campaign t-shirts during a recent meeting in Banjul. Lowe described the act as “unfortunate”

Mayor Lowe said she was surprised to see such behavior from women.

“I saw the video, and it is very unfortunate. In the video, I saw Ousman Wadda and MJ Finance, who are both members of the National People’s Party (NPP) executive in Banjul. They were sitting there and enjoying watching women like me being harassed and ridiculed. This is not something that we expect from women, or even men. However, these women were doing it because they wanted to please the men.” Mayor Lowe stated.

The Lord Mayor urged her supporters to conduct themselves with dignity and respect, and not to stoop to the level of those who had desecrated her campaign T-shirts.

“I am calling on all my supporters, family members, and sympathizers to not stoop to the level of my opponents. If they think that ridiculing Rohey Malick Lowe is the way to win this election, then they can continue to do so. But I will not stoop to their level. I am a civilized politician, and I will not engage in personal attacks. My opponent is my brother, and even if he was not, I would still not stoop to his level.” she stressed.

The Lord Mayor said that the women should be embarrassed by their actions

“I have condemned that behaviour to the last point. Because am not the only one they bring down, but they are belittling themselves as women,” she said
