Rambo Jatta Says TRRC Recommendations Will Not Be Implemented
By Buba Gagigo
The Deputy Leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) Ousman Rambo Jatta has claimed that the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) will not be implemented.
He said that one could only implement something that has a genuine base.
“The implementation of the recommendations of the TRRC is not going to happen. You can only implement something that was formed in a genuine line,” he replied when asked whether he thinks Barrow will implement the TRRC Recommendations.
“Let’s first go to the setting up of the TRRC. Is the Chairman qualified? Was he a legal practitioner? Has he ever served on the bench? Was he a high court judge? So why do you put him there? Is because you [government] have an agenda,” Ousman Rambo Jatta continued
The APRC deputy party Leader however believes in some of the revelations at the commission.
“I believe some [TRRC revelations] based on who was testifying. Not every tom, dick and Harry come in to sit in that chair after being manipulated and given money to lie after swearing to the Quran. You expect me to believe that?” Rambo said.
“The funny thing is, they said human rights violations from 1994 to 2016. Why wasn’t I invited after, my name was mentioned there three times even by Ousainou Darboe? Is it because I am pro-Yahya Jammeh? Yankuba Touray for example why is he languishing in jail when Alagie Kanyi said he was part of the people who hit this man [Koro Ceesay] in the head. They told him to go home,” Rambo quizzed.
The APRC deputy leader made these remarks to Kerr Fatou recently. Watch the full interview on Thursday on Kerr Fatou and GRTS at 9pm.
President Barrow recently said in an interview with QTV that he would implement the TRRC Recommendations when submitted to him later this month.
However According to the Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) the Gambia Government failed to honour its promise to pay D50 million to the TRRC for reparations to victims, although it paid part of the promise. The total figure for Reparations is over D205 Million.
