Raila Odinga Visits Gambia to Rally Support for AU Chairmanship

Kenya’s former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, made a brief stop in The Gambia on Sunday as part of his West African tour, seeking support for his bid to become the next African Union (AU) Chairman.
According to a statement from the Vice President’s office, H.E. Mohammed B.S. Jallow welcomed H.E. Raila Odinga at Banjul International Airport on Sunday. During his brief visit, Odinga met with the Vice President and held a phone discussion with President Adama Barrow, who is currently on a nationwide tour.
“On Sunday, the Vice President of The Gambia, H.E. Mohammed B.S. Jallow, welcomed Kenya’s former Prime Minister, H.E Raila Odinga, at Banjul International Airport. H.E Odinga is on a West African tour seeking support for his candidacy as the African Union (AU) Chairman. His visit to The Gambia was brief, during which he held a meeting with the Vice President and had a phone conversation with the President, who is currently on tour. Following these engagements, he continued his journey to neighboring Senegal,” the Vice President’s office announced.
Earlier last week, the former Kenyan Prime Minister and opposition leader officially announced his candidacy for the AU leadership, emphasizing his vision to make the organization more people-centered and responsive to Africa’s pressing challenges.
