Professor Wang Lauds China’s Remarkable Achievement in Poverty Alleviation

Wang Sangui, a professor at Renmin University of China, heralds China’s significant achievement in its relentless battle against poverty. Over four decades of concerted efforts have resulted in the uplifting of millions from dire economic conditions, marking a profound milestone.
“The country’s Precision Poverty Alleviation Strategy, implemented since 2014, has emerged as a cornerstone of its poverty reduction initiatives.
“The journey towards poverty alleviation in China has been characterized by a comprehensive approach, addressing various facets of socio-economic development. Targeted interventions encompassing income generation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development have been pivotal in driving progress. The result is a substantial reduction in poverty rates, with an impressive 100 million rural poor lifted out of destitution between 2013 and 2020,” Wang Sangui notes.
Professor Wang stated that central to China’s success has been the meticulous identification and registration of poor households, enabling tailored assistance and support mechanisms. Income-generating activities, interest-free loans, and employment promotion initiatives have empowered millions economically. Investments in education and healthcare have also improved the overall quality of life.
