Press Statement From Kerr Fatou On Hate Speech
November 2, 2021: Earlier this evening, we broadcast the public address (via phone call from Equatorial Guinea) of former president Yahya Jammeh at GDC’s rally at Buffer Zone. His speech was broadcast as part of our commitment to give equal time and opportunity to all the political parties and groups ahead of the December polls.
We decided to immediately delete the broadcast from our social media pages after we came to the conclusion that ex-president Jammeh’s statements tantamount to hate speech and can trigger violence/ethnic conflict ahead of the polls.
We at Kerr Fatou want to make it clear that we will not promote or take part in any activity that tantamount to hate speech. We will also not give platform to any group or person to spew any form of hate message or promote hate speech.
We owe it to our audience and readers as well as this great nation to help stop hate speech. Together, we can maintain the peace, tranquility and oneness The Gambia is known for. At Kerr Fatou, we will always play our part.
