Press Release: MoI Calls for Unlicenced Alcohol Vendors to Stop Sales
It has come to the notice of the Ministry of Interior that some vendors are selling alcohol in the country without being licenced to do so.
These liquor vendors are either not granted operational licence or have not renewed their licence in accordance with the law.
In the same vein, the general public is hereby informed that the sale of liquor to minors is an offence and it is the responsibility of a licensee to ensure that the sale of liquor is not accorded to minors.
Therefore, all liquor vendors are urged to request Identification Cards from any such persons to check their age and other relevant information.
In view of the above, all vendors selling alcohol without licence are required to regularise their status as soon as possible.
Thus, The Gambia Police Force will kick start an interception exercise to arrest and prosecute shopkeepers, supermarket owners, including households who are involved in selling alcohol without licences and to minors.
This is a security concern and the general public’s cooperation is highly solicited.
