President Adama Barrow has announced a D292 million commitment to renovate Bwiam General Hospital, a key healthcare facility in the Foni Region, as part of his administration’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery. The announcement was made during his Meet the People Tour in the West Coast Region, at a gathering in Kalagi with residents of Foni Bondali and Kansala constituencies.
The President emphasized the transformative impact of this project, assuring the people that the investment in the hospital’s renovation would exceed the combined cost of six newly built hospitals.
“I want to assure you that the funds allocated for the renovation of Bwiam General Hospital will exceed the cost of the six hospitals we’ve built. Once completed, you will notice a significant difference. We are investing 292 million Dalasis, and we will equip the hospital to the point where you won’t need to travel to Banjul for check-ups,” President Barrow said.
In his address, President Barrow also highlighted the unprecedented developments his administration is bringing to the region. “This government will bring changes here that previous administrations have not. Despite the fact that the former president came from Foni, the region lacked essential services during his tenure. But now, I assure you, things will continue to improve. I do not have borders; every Gambian is part of me, and I am working for all of you,” he declared.
The President further informed the gathering that his government is actively working on additional healthcare initiatives in the region, including the construction of two health centers. “My Minister of Health has informed me that we are building two health posts in Foni. One is already completed, and the other is still under construction. A hospital is not just about a building; it requires qualified doctors and state-of-the-art equipment for proper function. Rest assured, the Bwiam Hospital will be renovated and upgraded to provide even better services than before,” he added.
