His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, has assured the residents of Bundung Constituency that they will soon have access to a 24-hour water supply.
During a recent visit to inspect the construction of the OIC road in Bundung, President Barrow addressed concerns about the area’s water shortage. “I see that the people of Bundung are pleased with the road construction, but I have heard their concerns about inadequate water supply,” he said. “I want to let them know that we have a solution to this issue.”
The President explained that a borehole in NEMA has already been drilled, and the current challenge is extending the pipeline to Bundung. “Once the pipeline from NEMA is connected to Bundung, residents will have a continuous water supply. You can assure them of this,” President Barrow told Bundung’s National Assembly Member, Hon. Sulayman Jammeh.
Hon. Jammeh updated President Barrow on local efforts to address the water shortage.
“Right now, at the level of the community, we were able to provide five boreholes as a temporary solution. So right now, we also have almost 29 service connections that are paid through my Constituency Development Fund. To give water access to homes, mosques, and so on; right now, that is not possible because NAWEC does not have meters at the moment. When we have meters, the people of Bundung will no longer have problems accessing water, because a lot of people have taps in their homes.
“We need adequate water pressure to access clean water. I urge you to continue assisting us with improving water pressure. Water is essential for life, and in our area, the boreholes we rely on have high nitrate levels, which could pose health risks. However, we are very appreciative of your efforts and the promises you’ve kept. We are truly grateful,” Hon. Jammeh told President Barrow.
For too long, the residents of Bundung have voiced their concerns to the Gambian government about the difficulties they face in accessing clean drinking water.
Hon. Sulayman Jammeh, the National Assembly Member for Bundung Constituency, has frequently brought these issues to Parliament on behalf of his constituents.
Despite these efforts, Bundung’s residents have continued to experience daily water shortages.
Now, the Gambian President has assured them that a solution is on the way, promising an end to their water scarcity problems soon.
