President Adama Barrow is in Dakar to attend the 80th commemoration of the “Tirailleurs Senegalais,” an event honoring the victims of the 1944 French massacre of World War II veterans who were protesting unpaid wages.
A post on the State House’s Facebook page shared that President Diomaye Faye paid a courtesy visit to President Barrow at his hotel, where they held a private meeting.
“The Senegalese President Diomaye Faye called on President Adama Barrow at his hotel in Dakar. The two engaged in a private meeting, focusing on matters of mutual interest aimed at enhancing the bilateral relationship and fostering the spirit of brotherhood between The Gambia and Senegal.
The meeting took place on the eve of the 80th commemoration of “Tirailleurs Senegalais” in remembrance of the French massacre in 1944 of World War II veterans over unpaid wages.”
The post also highlighted that President Barrow is one of the invited heads of state attending the commemorative ceremony.
“President Barrow is among the invited Heads of State to participate in the official ceremony on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Thiaroye.” the statement concludes.
