President Adama Barrow has expressed confidence in his chances of securing re-election in the 2026 presidential race, citing his administration’s development efforts as key factors that will earn him another term.

Speaking in an interview with QTV on Thursday, President Barrow emphasized that his government has successfully delivered various infrastructure and social projects to Gambians, making him believe that voters will not opt for a change in leadership.

When asked about the recent Afrobarometer survey indicating that 77 percent of Gambians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction, the president dismissed the findings as subjective.
“This is all subjective. You have different opinions and different organisations. There’s an organisation called EIU, about a 19- or 29-page report. The report concluded that I am going to win the elections. So these are all opinions. For me, I am confident that I think I am doing a good job. I think I have not done anything that will warrant Gambian people to sack me,” he said.

Defending his administration’s record, President Barrow asserted that he has governed within the bounds of the law and has not misused executive power.
“I think also we are moving this country in the right direction. We are developing this country. We are implementing landmark projects, road infrastructure, electricity, schools, and health facilities. A Hundred ten percent salary increment. By January, a lot of people will be very rich. Our collection has increased. 2024 and 2023, our collection, the difference is about five billion. This year we have gone beyond our target. I think we are doing a good job; that’s what I think,” he explained.
Expressing his optimism for the upcoming election, President Barrow added, “So with all these achievements, you think people will choose somebody over me? I don’t think so. But anyway, it is the Gambian people who will decide, but I am very confident that I can win 2026, maybe with a bigger margin this time. I will defeat my father again,” the president said.
His remarks reflect his unwavering belief in his administration’s progress and his prospects for another term in office.
