President Adama Barrow has announced plans to recruit additional police officers and expand the fleet of patrol vehicles to strengthen security measures across The Gambia.
Speaking to the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), President Barrow underscored the critical role of security in fostering economic investment and national stability.
“For investment to thrive, there must be peace. We have been implementing various security initiatives, but modern policing requires more than just personnel—it demands advanced resources such as surveillance cameras. These tools significantly enhance law enforcement efforts. Even when compared to our neighboring countries, The Gambia enjoys a relatively higher level of security,” President Barrow stated.
The president further outlined his administration’s commitment to increasing police presence in communities.
“This year, we are implementing several plans, including the recruitment of additional police officers to ensure patrols across all areas. We are also increasing the number of patrol vehicles. Soon, we will see officers conducting armed patrols. These measures are about to commence,” he added.
Emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining security, President Barrow urged citizens to actively support law enforcement by providing timely information.
“We want a peaceful country, but security is a collective responsibility. It is not solely the duty of the police—citizens must also contribute by sharing vital information. Effective policing relies on intelligence, and by assisting the police, citizens are also helping their country,” he noted.
The president concluded by encouraging a strong work ethic among Gambians, highlighting his own personal experiences of diligence and perseverance both at home and abroad.
