President Adama Barrow on Thursday paid tribute to the late former U.S. President Jimmy Carter by signing the condolence book at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in Fajara.

The 39th U.S. president passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, leaving behind a legacy as a statesman and humanitarian. President Jimmy Carter was widely recognized as a distinguished politician and humanitarian. Serving as president from 1977 to 1981, he was a member of the Democratic Party and previously held roles as a Georgia State Senator (1963–1967) and the 76th Governor of the state of Georgia (1971–1975).

After signing the condolence book, President Barrow expressed his profound sympathies to the American government and people, reflecting on Jimmy Carter’s exceptional contributions to global peace, democracy, and human rights.

“I am here to sympathize with the American Government and the entire world for the loss of Mr Jimmy Carter, Former President of the United States. He was a great president, I will say he was a great human being because I think what he has achieved after the presidency was great and he spent his entire life supporting humanity,” He Said.

Speaking further, President Barrow highlighted Carter’s exemplary post-presidential work and the inspiration it provided to leaders worldwide.

“He was very social and I think this is an encouragement for all presidents that there is life after presidency. I will seize the opportunity on my behalf, on behalf of my family and the entire Gambian people to extend our condolences to the American Ambassador, to the President of the United States, the Government of the United States, and the entire people of the United States. We are very sad about the passing of Jimmy Carter but I think he has achieved a lot that we should remember him for that is why we are here to sympathize with you,” He Said.

Carter’s presidency is most notable for the historic Camp David Accords, which established peace between Israel and Egypt. Beyond his time in office, he devoted his life to humanitarian causes through initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center, focusing on democracy, public health, and conflict resolution.

President Barrow’s tribute underscores the global impact of Jimmy Carter’s life and work, honoring him as a beacon of integrity, compassion, and service to humanity.
