President Adama Barrow will travel to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for a two-day official visit with effect from Wednesday 27th February, 2019.

According to a press release from the State House, Barrow will leave the Banjul International Airport at 09:00 a.m.

Barrow will be received in Nouakchott by his Mauritanian counterpart, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, following which a bilateral discussion will take place between the heads of state.

Abdel Aziz has played a crucial role in the last minutes discussions that prevented Gambia from plunging into a conflict during the December 2016 political impasse.

After last minutes discussion by regional leaders to get Yahya Jammeh to cede power failed and military intervention was eminent, it was Alpha Conde of Guinea and Abdel Aziz of Mauritania, who intervened to get Jammeh to leave.
