PPP sets to elect new leader
The former ruling party, People’s Progressive Party [PPP] is set to replace its Secretary General and Leader, Papa Njie at its national congress on 27th February 2021, according to a missive from the party.
Njie has been appointed by President Barrow as Gambia’s ambassador to the Federal Republic of Nigeria in October 2020, where is currently serving. Since his departure, his party appointed Kebba E Jallow as the interim Secretary General and Party Leader in PPP’s national executive committee. And he expressed interest to contest for the position at the congress, despite Fatoumata Touma Njie showing interest.
Aside the Secretary General position, other executive positions up for grab are: Deputy Secretary-General and Party Leader; National President; Deputy National President; National Treasurer; and Deputy National Treasurer.
However, the positions of National President; Deputy National President; and National Treasurer are unopposed; while the rest of the positions will be contested.
