The Gambia Police Force has confirmed the arrest and detention of a Police Intervention Unit (PIU) officer by its Tourism Security Unit (TSU) for alleged misconduct at the Tourism Development Area in Senegambia.
“The Tourism Security Unit (TSU) of The Gambia Police Force has arrested and detained a police officer from the Police Intervention Unit, Kanifing, for alleged gross misconduct at the Tourism Development Area in Senegambia on Thursday, November 28, 2024. This action follows a serious allegation reported to the TSU Charge Office, accusing the officer of manhandling a male and female at the beach under the pretext of enforcing “decency” in a public place. Such behavior, if confirmed, is a flagrant violation of the code of conduct expected of our officers,” the police statement read.
The Gambia Police Force strongly condemned the alleged misconduct, emphasizing its zero-tolerance stance on abuse of power.
“A thorough and impartial investigation is already underway, and the GPF assures the public that justice will be served. If found guilty, the officer will face the full force of the law and strict disciplinary measures to uphold the integrity of the force. The GPF reaffirms its unreserved commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of public trust. We remain resolute in ensuring that all our officers adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards in the execution of their duties. Misconduct has no place within the ranks of The Gambia Police Force,” the statement added.
