The Gambia Police Force has arrested Alieu Ceesay, a suspect reportedly involved in the illegal trade of stolen phones and impersonation. The arrest followed investigations into a theft and impersonation case in Jarra Soma on November 16, 2024.
According to a press statement issued by the police, Ceesay has been implicated in buying stolen phones from thieves and reselling them to unsuspecting buyers. The investigation further revealed that he allegedly impersonated a police officer to trick victims into sharing their phone passwords.
“A review of phone records linked Ceesay to several stolen devices, including an iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and iPhone XR, all of which were recovered during the operation, along with a basic phone used to manipulate SIM cards,”the statement reads.
The Gambia Police Force has urged the public to remain vigilant, take measures to safeguard their belongings, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
