The Gambia police have dropped charges against human rights and pro-democracy activist Madi Jobarteh. He was charged with false and publication and broadcasting of after he gave an interview to the media in which he accused the police of not doing any investigations into the death of three people whose deaths are linked to security forces.

He was put on police bail and was due to report back on Monday.
However Kerr Fatou has obtained reliable information that the police have dropped the charges and will not be after Mr Jobarteh for anything concerning the matter.
According our sources the IGP’s decision came after interventions by the Human Rights Commission which mediated in the matter.

‘’In the spirit of national unity and in recognition of your tremendous efforts in striking a compromise in this saga, I am happy to announce that as the IGP we are dropping all charges against Mr Jobarteh as from today. No further action will be taken against him as far as this matter is concern,’’ IGP Mamour Jobe is quoted in a letter to the Human rights commission seen by Kerr Fatou.
