The Gambia Police Force has declined a permit application from a group planning to demonstrate against ongoing ferry service disruptions in the Gambia.
The Office of the Inspector General of Police cited security concerns, particularly in light of the upcoming OIC summit, as the reason for the denial.
“The Office of the Inspector General of Police acknowledges receipt of your missive dated 14th April, 2024 in relation to the above caption.
“Accordingly, this Office writes to kindly inform you that your request could not be granted approval due to security challenges in anticipation of the upcoming OIC summit. Thus, the office of the Inspector General of Police renews and reassure,” the IGP office said.Meanwhile, both ferries have remained non-operational for over five consecutive days, exacerbating transportation issues for commuters.
