The Minister of Interior, Ebrima Mballow, has confirmed reports that two people have died after confrontation between locals and police turned ugly.
Reports said two locals died, reportedly of wounds sustained in fracas with the police. And this medium had gathered that a number of people were wounded and taken to the hospital.
“I am briefed,” said Mballow.

The Kerr Fatou team that headed for the village after the news broke could not establish the trigger of the conflict.
Natives of Faraba are protesting against a sand mining by Jula Kay Company that was awarded license to operate in an area close to their rice fields.
The natives said the mining in the area that is allocated to Jula Kay will destroy their rice fields, an argument bought by the National Assembly Committee on Environment.
Suwaibou Touray, a member of the National Assembly Committee on Environment that visited Faraba last week, has told Kerr Fatou that any mining in Faraba will destroy the only rice growing area in the village.
“There are three areas that natives of Faraba grow rice and all the two areas were destroyed by sand mining. That is what makes the case at Faraba complex,” Touray said.
Meanwhile, attempts by Kerr Fatou to reach the police spokesperson for comments were unsuccessful.
