Police arrest Gunjur-born activist Dr Janneh
Gambian police have arrested Dr Amadou Scattred Janneh on Tuesday in his native village Gunjur.
Dr Janneh confirmed his arrest to Kerr Fatou while at a police station but details about his allege wrongdoing are not available.
Dr Janneh spoke to Kerr Fatou on mobile phone but could not have enough time to deliberate.
He was reportedly arrested by police at a funeral service of his uncle right at the Gunjur cemetery.
There are suspicion that Janneh’s subsequent detention at the Gunjur police station is in relation with his activism against coastal pollution by Golden Lead, a Chinese fishmeal company.
Janneh was charged in absentia few months ago for reportedly leading young people to damage properties of Golden Lead at the Gunjur sea side. Janneh and others have reportedly removed pipes of the company that they said are polluting the sea.
