The Gambia Police Force has announced that the Police Intervention Unit’s (PIU) Special Forces are currently participating in a rigorous training program aimed at enhancing their operational readiness. This program focuses on equipping the unit with advanced skills in specialized operations, including counter-terrorism, riot control, and hostage rescue.
The statement further explains that officers engage in rigorous physical training to enhance their endurance, stamina, and overall fitness, enabling them to meet the physical demands of high-risk situations.
“To meet the physical demands of these high-risk scenarios, officers are subjected to rigorous physical exercises aimed at improving endurance, stamina, and overall fitness. This is critical for ensuring quick and efficient deployments in challenging environments. Alongside this, the training emphasizes in-depth weapons handling, close-quarters combat, and proficiency in using advanced tactical equipment,” the statement reads.
The statement further highlighted the importance of teamwork and strategic coordination in the training. “Moreover, a strong focus is placed on teamwork and strategic coordination. Officers are drilled in simulated operational environments to refine their skills in executing complex missions as a cohesive unit. In parallel, decision-making under pressure is honed through crisis management drills that replicate real-world scenarios.”
The statement added “This comprehensive program is designed to ensure that the PIU’s Special Force remains highly prepared to handle complex and volatile situations, ensuring the continued maintenance of peace and order,”
