Press release: On Sunday June 10, 2019 the People’s Progressive Party’s New York Chapter unanimously selected an interim committee to help coordinate the affairs of the party in New York.
The PPP’s National Executive Committee, Central Committee, Secretariat and general members congratulate the New York Chapter for a successful election.
Honorable Ms. Fatou Njie ‘Kinneh” a native of Serrekunda who hailed from “Lion House” is the interim Secretary General. In acceptance speech, she said “I will forever support PPP not because of an individual person, but for the Party’s democratic values and track records. My loyalty is to the Party, and will do all I can to help revive the PPP. I can still remember when growing up, the way Gambians lived in peace, despite their political differences”.
She also emphasized, “Our parents taught us inclusiveness, tolerance as per the slogan, “One Gambia, One People.” She concluded by thanking the New York Chapter for the trust and confidence they bestowed on her to run the affairs of the New York Chapter.
Mr. Bakary Manneh, the interim Chairman of the chapter and also a PPP veteran promised to continue his support for the Party and reminded the interim executive members of the PPP’s rich history on Human Rights and Peace in the Gambia. He concluded by saying, “This is the party that led us to independence therefore we must not allow it to die. I also want to follow the footsteps of Honorable Omar Jallow (OJ) by taking a back seat as an adviser in a shortest possible time. I will be happy to handover my chairmanship to a younger person at our elective congress. I strongly believe that the future of this party is safe in the hands of the youth.”
The other interim executive members are: Mr. Ousman Tasli Jawara, Assistant Secretary General; Mr. Ousman Madikay Faal, Vice Chairman; Mr. Baboucar Sey Director of Media and Communication; Mr. Jabel Ceesay, Deputy Director of Media and Communication, and Mr. Kebba L Nanko Propaganda Secretary.
Congratulations to all the members of the New York Chapter and the rest of the executive members who voluntarily sacrificed their time for the party.
PPP has what it takes to unify the county guided by the spirit of One Gambia, One People. We will continue to uphold our shared values of Political inclusiveness, tolerance, democracy and human rights as our founding fathers believed in them.
