The leader of the People Democratic for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) has urged Gambians to love one another and their country because that makes a country.

“Let us use our brains. Your country as far as you are the citizens, your country should prevent you from poverty. It [country] should prevent you from suffering. It should prevent you from being lost. Every citizen also should love his/her country and [fellow] citizens. That’s what makes a country a country,” Halifa Sallah said.
Sallah made these remarks in his address to a gathering in Gambisara in the Upper River Region, amid a rousing welcome on Friday.
