Parliamentary Elections: Fourteen Candidates Cleared To Contest In Banjul

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has approved 14 candidates to contest for the 3 constituencies in the Gambia’s capital, Banjul.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Tuesday released the list of candidates whose nomination has been accepted to run for the Banjul North, Central and South constituency seats in the April 9th mparliamentary.

The nomination of seven candidates for the Banjul Central, four for the Banjul South, and 3 for the Banjul North have been accepted by the IEC. 

Aminata T.B. Jarra of the Gambia for All (GFA); Baboucarr Mboge of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS); Muhammed Ndow of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP); Momodou Cherno Jallow of the United Democratic Party (UDP); Lyndon B. Johnson; Alhagi Jah; and Abdoulie Njai, independent candidates, have been accepted to run for the Banjul Central constituency seat.

While Ousman Abou Wadda of National People’s Party (NPP); Muhamadou Mansour Foon of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS); Yaya Kuyateh of the United Democratic Party (UDP), and Fatoumatta Njai independent candidates have been accepted for the Banjul South constituency seat.

And Samba Njie of the National People’s Party (NPP); Ousman Sillah of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS); and Modou Lamin B. Bah of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for the Banjul North constituency seat.

Meanwhile, a record 251 candidates have been cleared by the electoral commission to run for Gambia’s 53 constituency seats in less than a month . 

However, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is yet to disclose the number of aspirants rejected in the three constituencies.
