Parliament: VP Appeals For Time To Study Deportation Policy
By Ramatoulie Jawo
Gambia’s Vice President Badara Alieu Joof appealed to the National Assembly committee to give his team time to study details of the deportation issues concerning Gambians in Europe.
He said that he needs the time because he is new in the system and does not know details of the matter.
“Even the Interior Minister is new in the system. So we must sit with the President (Barrow) and Minister of Foreign Affairs and his technicians to give us more information about the deportation policy because it’s a very sensitive matter, so we need time for it,” he said.
The VP assured the committee that his team will return to the House within a short time to properly delve into the matter to see how best they can help the affected Gambians in Europe, especially in Germany.
His Excellency Joof made the appeal on Tuesday before the National Assembly select committee on Foreign Affairs during discussions on the plight of Gambians due for deportation from Europe; especially the Federal Republic of Germany.
Hon. Madi Ceesay, member of the committee urged the VP to return in a “very short period of time because there are a lot of Gambians who are suffering in Europe; and they need help. So they should do something as authorities to help them within a short period of time”.
