Parliament Invites Protesters Against Judicial And NA Bills To Dialogue On Monday

The National Assembly of The Gambia has invited Concerned Citizens Against the Judicial Officers Remuneration and Other Entitlements Bill and the National Assembly Members Salaries and Pensions Bill to a dialogue on Monday.
On July 8, 2024, hundreds of young Gambians protested peacefully to voice their dissatisfaction with the bills concerning the Judiciary and the National Assembly Members.
The group’s leadership submitted their petition to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta.
In a letter to the group, the Office of the Clerk stated that, after careful consideration of the petition by the Leadership of all sides of the National Assembly, they are invited to a meeting with the Leadership of the National Assembly for dialogue. The group is asked to send no more than seven representatives.
“I write, on behalf of the National Assembly, to acknowledge receipt of your petition on the afore-captioned and the statement therein, submitted through the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the National Assembly on Monday 08th July 2024, the said meeting is scheduled for Monday 15th July 2024 at 14:30 at Committee Room 1, of the National Assembly,” the Clerk said in a letter.
The Office of the Clerk requested the group to provide, in advance, the names of their representatives to facilitate the necessary access clearance for the meeting.
