Operation 3 Years Jotna top brass remanded
A court in Kanifing has remanded eight top officials of the banned Three years Jotna group who were arrested in connection with Sunday’s violent protest organized by the group who wants President Barrow to step down to respect his election promise of a three-year mandate.
The eight, Ebrima Kitim Jarju, Sheriffo Sonko, Abdou Njie, Fanta Mballow, Karim Touray, Yankuba Darboe , Matarr Ceesay and Hagi Suwaneh were also charged with three counts of criminal activity ranging from unlawful assembly to vandalism.
The prosecution begged for the case to be transferred to the high court since the charge of vandalism carries a life sentence and therefore beyond the competence of the magistrate court which was upheld by the magistrate despite opposition from defense Lawyer Lamin Camara.
It is expected that accused persons would appear on Friday to hear their bail application.
