Old Yundum NAM Says Parliament Bears Some Responsibility For “Failure” Of Youth & Sports Ministry

The National Assembly Member for Old Yundum Constituency, Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay, has said that the National Assembly bears some responsibility for the “failure” of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports for me, I think, is part of the most important Ministries that we should empower as a National Assembly. This is neglected, and I think the failure of this Ministry to advance sports in this country is the failure of the National Assembly because we are not allocating enough resources for them to do what they are supposed to do. We need to be able to give them money,” he said.
Hon. Ceesay said sports can be a lucrative industry, citing the success of Gambia’s neighboring countries in the sporting arena
Hon. Ceesay asked his fellow parliamentarians what was preventing them from providing the Ministry of Sports with enough funding to enhance sports in all areas. He argued that this would allow young people to pursue sports as a career and earn the revenue they deserve.
“The National Assembly must stand up and ensure that we provide enough resources to the Ministry. We can do a lot in sports to earn a lot of revenue to be able to work in this country and develop the Gambia” he said.
