Musa Sonko, the deputy leader of the National Reconciliation Party has been in police custody since Wednesday, the police spokesperson Lamin Njie told Kerr Fatou.

The police said Sonko has been arrested for allegedly refusing to surrender a vehicle that belongs to his party. “We are investigating the whereabouts of the vehicle,” said Njie.

The vehicle was given to the NRP by the coalition after the 2016 election. The NRP was given one vehicle.

Musa was Gambia’s ambassador to Guinea Bissau until few months ago when he was relieved. At the time of his recall, he claimed to have had two months on his contract.

After he returned to the country, Musa protested his sacking and his relations with his party leader, Hamat Bah who is currently Gambia’s tourism minister, became sour.

About two months ago, Sonko was in the media criticizing his party leader Bah, calling him selfish.
