Njie who claims to finance GDC quits the party

Papa Njie Girigara, former Kanifing Municipal mayoral aspirant for the Gambia Democratic Congress, has told Kerr Fatou that he has quit the party.

Njie, who claimed he sponsored Kandeh’s 2016 election bid, said his decision is informed by several disagreements he has had with the leadership of the party.

The GDC leader Mama Kandeh issued a press release yesterday on several issues affecting the country and raised, among others, the “unconstitutionality” of the appointment of Ousainou Darboe as vice president.

Njie said that press release does not reflect his position on issues.

Njie contested for the mayoral position of the Kanifing Municipality but lost to the UDP candidate Talib Bensouda.

However, he said during his campaign period his party issued a statement questioning the validity of the identification card of Bensouda, a position he disagreed with.

Njie said that action by the GDC leadership was wrong and has affected his chances in the elections.

Njie said he sponsored Kandeh’s 2016 presidential bid with D2.5 million dalasi

“I am no longer a member of the party… From now I dissociate myself from the GDC and anything that come from them…,” he said.
