NAWEC Fires Treasury Manager, Suspends Finance Director

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has announced the dismissal of its Treasury Manager and the suspension of its Director of Finance following allegations of misconduct. The allegations stem from a phone conversation between the Director of Finance and a supposed supplier.
In an official statement, NAWEC revealed, “The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) wishes to inform the public of its decision to terminate the services of its Treasury Manager and suspend the Director of Finance following allegations of misconduct involving a telephone conversation between the Director of Finance and a purported supplier. The alleged conversation involved unauthorized financial arrangements in violation of company policies and ethical standards. NAWEC has a zero-tolerance stance on unethical practices and a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of public resources,” NAWEC said.
NAWEC further stated that it has partnered with the Gambia Police Force to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.
“If the allegations are substantiated, the company will take decisive disciplinary and legal actions in line with its internal policies and national laws. We appeal to the public and the media to exercise restraint while investigations are underway. Updates will be communicated in a timely manner,” NAWEC said.
