The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that the maintenance work currently being carried out at the Independence Stadium and Friendship Hotel is expected to be completed by July.

“The ongoing renovation and remodeling work at the country’s main football arena, Independence Stadium, And Friendship Hotel, is expected to be completed by July. The contractors are working tirelessly to make sure the work is done on time. As seen in the pictures below, work has improved significantly and the latest installation of the seats at the Independence Stadium is another giant step toward achieving our goal.

“These seats are standard ones used in different stadiums globally. With the arrival of the Turkish experts and our experts on the ground too, we believe quality work to be done when the job is finished. The current renovation and remodeling of the stadium, when the work is finished, it will help us to play our next home game in September. We are all in this together, together we can build a better nation,” the ministry announced.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned The Gambia’s Independence Stadium from hosting CAF A Type competition for failure to meet the required standard in a letter dated 16th February 2022.
