Jainaba Janneh, a resident of Sukuta in the West Coast Region, has accused her son’s girlfriend of influencing him to set their house on fire while she was sleeping inside.
Musa Ceesay was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly setting fire to his mother’s house while she was asleep. According to Jainaba, she had repeatedly warned the girl to stay away from her son, but her warnings were ignored.
“I’ve told the girl multiple times not to visit my son, but she didn’t listen. Her name is Awa, and she has a child with a boy who left for the Back Way. Now, she’s using my son to take care of her child. I told her if she was serious about my son, she should let me know so they could get married, but despite chasing her away three or four times, she refused to stop visiting him,” Jainaba told Kerr Fatou.
Jainaba recounted that on Awa’s last visit, she asked her to leave with her child and later asked her younger brother, who managed to convince her to leave.
“When she left, she told one of my neighbors that no one would sleep in this compound that night. Later, when I was asleep, my son Baba told me Musa came and switched on the light to check if I was asleep. After confirming, he poured petrol and set the house on fire. Baba woke me up, and I had to walk through the fire, which burned my body,” Jainaba shared.
She described Musa as a respectful person who doesn’t smoke or drink alcohol.
“Musa respects everyone in the compound. He can’t even look you in the eyes when talking to you. I don’t know why he did this, but God knows. I believe he acted under the influence of that girl. I’m appealing to the public for help to renovate my house, especially to Lawyer Ousainou Darboe because he knows me. I’ll also contact Ebrima Dibba, Yankuba Darboe, and others. I have nowhere to sleep now and spend my nights outside,” she said.
