The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has announced that the Gambia will conduct the 2022 GABECE and WASSCE for the grade 9 and 12 students.
“Regional Education Directorates, School Principals, Parents, Students and the Public are hereby informed that the Gambia will conduct the 2022 GABECE and WASSCE as planned,” the ministry said in a statement dated 28 February 2022.
The ministry said the development followed a ‘successful’ virtual meeting by the relevant stakeholders during which the areas that the Gambia owe the West African Examination Council (WAEC) was addressed.
“This development came following a successful virtual meeting held on Friday, 25th February, 2022 amongst stakeholders including the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and the West African Examination Council during which the issue of arrears was amicably resolved,” the statement added.
MoBSE said it is committed to continuously improving ‘quality education’ service delivery.
Prior to this development the permanent secretary of MoBSE told lawmakers that the Gambia owes the WAEC between D11 and D12 million, 50% of which must be paid to allow the Gambian students in the ninth and twelfth grades sit for the GABECE and WASSCE this year.
