The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), Louis Moses Mendy has called analysis of the 2022 WASSCE results  trending on social media “not accurate”.

“Instead of 605 candidates who were said to have five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics, the accurate and official figures of candidates who have 5 credits and above including English and Maths are 716 candidates,” he said.

Ps Mendy claimed that there were pending WASSCE results at the moment the analysis was made.

He added that as sector, they decided to work on to  reduce the WASSCE results fail rate in 2017 from 21.7% to 14.9% in 2018 .

“We said no, we cannot continue to have that. What we need to do is to reduce the fail rate. So that at some point, there will be nobody failing and that have constantly been maintained in 2018 from 21.7%, the Ministry went  all the way to 14.9%, at least a reduction of about 6.5%,” Ps said.

The MoBSE Permanent Secretary made the remarks at a press conference in Banjul on Thursday.

Despite MoBSE’s reaction, a statement by WAEC announcing the release of 2022 WASSCE results indicated that only 605 of the 15, 360 school candidates got 5 credit passes and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

Analytically, as per the announcement only the 605 of the 15, 360 school candidates have University of the Gambia’s entry requirement, leaving the 14, 755 candidates without.
